TueTuesdayOctOctober2nd2007 Thank you from KC! - October 1, 2007
Dear Cornerstone family,
Hello from Kansas City! Thank you for your recent gift for the work of the ministry in Bosnia. I'm really thankful for your partnership in this work (Phil. 1:4-8).

My days have been filled with seminary as I am taking 11 hours to be able to finish up an MA with Biblical Languages. This is a degree I started nine years ago since I take classes pretty much only when I am back in the States on furlough. My classes are Hebrew Exegesis of Genesis, Greek Exegesis of Colossians/Philemon, Greek Exegesis of Revelation, Greek Exegesis of Hebrews and History of Christianity II. The classes are very challenging and keep
me in the Word and also learning about church history from the Reformation onward.

We have also spoken a number of times at four churches and will be doing more travel in Oklahoma and Iowa to speak. It will be good to see you in May of next year. We are very grateful to have a van compliments of missionarymotors.com that we can use for the year.

Pamala is so excited to be pregnant and the baby is due in March 2008. Her doctor's appointments have gone well.

Our teammate back in Bosnia is working hard to update our English library for home schoolers, as well as the two theological libraries for missionaries and Bosnians. We were recently given quite a few books from a pastor from Oklahoma who retired.

Timothy, Jonathan and Elizabeth are involved in youth group at our home church in Blue Springs, Missouri (Woods Chapel Bible Fellowship) and making friends. The boys are studying for their PSAT exams and need to work toward their driver's permits. Matthew makes friends easily and enjoys playing outside and especially going down to the real football field since we live next door to William Jewell College. Kirsten is becoming more and more independent as a 3 ½ year old and makes us laugh with her cute sayings.

Well, I better close but I wanted to write and thank you for your thoughtful financial support.

Blessings,
Todd

Dear Cornerstone family,

I wanted to write and say thank you for your financial support in September. It really means a lot to us that you stand with us in prayer and giving.

The family is doing well here. Home schooling is off and running. The kids earlier had a project of working out in the yard landscaping a section that we hadn’t ever been able to use during the 6 years that we’ve lived here because of all the overgrowth and trash that was dumped there. They got that done before cooler weather set in, and they’re happy to have that done and now look forward to being able to use it next Spring as an area where they can have school, or we can just sit outside for meals when we cookout. Now, for that slot in the morning, instead of working outside, they’ve been listening to sermon tapes. Currently they’re listening to John Piper’s Romans series.

Timothy is working on Trigonometry and Chemistry. He, Jonathan and Elizabeth will be taking an English Literature class taught by one of the MK teachers here. Elizabeth has a ‘Daughters of the King’ club with some other MK girls. They get together about once a month or so. The last thing they did was to make goodies for a bake sale that our English Library held, along with a Garage sale to raise money. God answered prayer with good weather that day and it was neat to see their involvement and to know about the proceeds that will help with the funding of the library. Matthew enjoys having his buddy back from furlough who lives down the street. They spend a lot of time playing together, including in a floor ball club that our team mates have started for his age group. Floor ball is sort of like floor hockey, and is played indoor in a gym. Kirsten is amazing us with the new things that she can say. Potty training is still a challenge but it is coming along.

Pamala is looking forward to going to a Women’s Retreat on the Croatian coast. This is the first time she has gotten to go for a while now that Kirsten is old enough to stay with Daddy. So I’ll be Mr. Mom for a couple days.

I am gearing up to start teaching Introduction to Biblical Languages, as well as Hebrew 1 and 2 at a couple schools in Bosnia and one in Croatia. It’s taking a long time to work on the textbook, Gesenius’ Hebrew Grammar, but at least it’s far enough along that I can use a draft of it for the classes. We’re still working on Daniel Wallace’s Biblical Greek Beyond the Basics: An Exegetical Syntax of the New Testament. This is just in the beginning stages but perhaps I can use part of it for the Greek sections of the class, since that won’t be until the Spring.

We’re still praying for housing in the Kansas City area for our furlough, which, Lord willing, will run from the end of July 2007 through end July 2008.

For the Bible translation project we are making progress, albeit slow. James chapters 1 through 3 are in draft form, as well as Philemon and an initial draft on 1 John 1 & 2, and also 2 John.

The last couple Sunday nights I have taken Sim and/or Ljuma to a Bible study here in Ilidža. It’s nice to have a place for them to go where there are at least one or more other Bosnians involved. We’ve been reading through the book of Acts and talking about it and asking questions in a discussion group. Pray for this Bible study to develop through more Bosnians coming to know Christ and the believers to be faithful to attend.

Thank you again, so much, for praying for us, and for your financial support.

In Christ,

TueTuesdaySepSeptember26th2006 Thank you

Dear Cornerstone family,

Hello from sunny Bosnia. We’re enjoying the last days of summer weather while we have it.

Thank you for the financial support you sent in August. It is an encouragement to us!

The kids started school yesterday. It is hard to believe that Timothy is a high school sophomore! He’s taller than me now (which isn’t saying much :) ). He’s starting advanced mathematics this year. He does really well in math and anything having to do with computers. Jonathan is doing Algebra 2 and is also doing some writing, on his blog and a couple games he is making. Elizabeth continues to be an avid reader. She is excited about horses these days. Matthew can do Bible reading on his own which is exciting. Kirsten understands so much and is so cute these days. She doesn’t talk a whole lot...but probably doesn’t need to with six others in the family doing it for her!

Things have gone more slowly on translating Gesenius’ Hebrew Grammar than I had hoped. But it looks like we will have the draft done that I can use it for the classes that I will teach. We were able to get a video projector so I should be able to project that on the board which will make it much better for classroom teaching. The classes in Krapina, Croatia, are Hebrew 1 and 2, a total of six credits, so I should be able to cover a fair amount to at least give them a good overview. The class in Mostar, Bosnia—my first time to teach at that school—is a four-credit Introduction to Biblical Languages, so we will just hit the highlights. The class here locally in Sarajevo, Bosnia, is a three-credit Introduction to Biblical Languages, so again will just get the students started. We hope to have part of a draft of Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics (Daniel Wallace) to use in the Greek section of the class.

Pray that I will have wisdom on which grammar to use leading up to of Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics. I’ve asked permission from Zondervan to have William Mounce’s Basics of Greek Grammar translated which would make a perfect match, but I haven’t gotten permission from them yet. If I can’t get permission, or if the conditions are not agreeable, I need to ask for permission on another Greek grammar, or use the existing one in Croatian. I’d prefer one that I have permission to print, have on our web site, and also use in class in digital format as that would be most convenient.

For the Bible translation I am working with my five national coworkers on Luke, Philemon, James and 1-2 John. Progress is slow but is coming along.

Thanks again for praying for us and for your financial support.

Blessings,

Todd
